Meet Jennifer, Founder, Author, & Illustrator of Read With Your Dog LLC
How it all began.
It all started with finding the right words.
While sitting beside her dog during a long illness, Jennifer found herself searching for the right words to comfort him. She began thinking about something that had fascinated her for years: how dogs respond to the words we use, our tone of voice, familiar cues, and repetition. She had experienced it firsthand throughout a lifetime with dogs and while helping train her daughter’s service dog.
But in those quiet moments beside her own dog, the idea became something more.
What if there were stories created specifically for dogs to hear?
She began mapping the moments across a dog’s life when carefully chosen language could help them to understand what is happening and deepen the connection between dogs and their people.
That idea became Read With Your Dog.
A career built around ideas.
Long before Read With Your Dog, Jennifer built a career at the intersection of creativity, communication, and creating something new. Her professional experience has crossed publishing, marketing, technology, child development, and nonprofit leadership.
She founded video game publishing company Zwirlz, where she created and published unconventional games designed to encourage action beyond the screen, reaching both domestic and international markets.
Jennifer also served as Assistant Director of Abilities Movement, a nonprofit providing fitness and sports opportunities for people with disabilities. The projects may look very different, but a common thread runs through them: taking a familiar idea in an unexpected direction—and figuring out how to make it real.
And then came books for dogs.
With Read With Your Dog, Jennifer brings together a lifelong connection with dogs, a curiosity about how they understand us, and years of experience turning original ideas into something tangible.
Today, she serves as President of Read With Your Dog LLC, an independent publishing company based in Fairport, New York, creating stories built around the quiet conversations that happen every day between dogs and their people.
